Regeneration and Intelligence

This is a podcast with Eleanor Sheekey hosting Dr. Michael Levin.

This conversation began by focusing on the fundamentals of biological regeneration and his lab’s success with the limbs of amphibians.

They then discussed bioelectricity, which Dr. Levin has described as large-scale pattern memory kept in the cell”. This leads to coordinated behavior by an entire community of cells toward a common purpose.

The discussion on xenobots was particularly intriguing. These entities exhibit some rather curious behavior, sparking a debate on whether we should be studying the evolution of intelligence or intelligent evolution.

Dr. Levin’s work is not just a scientific endeavor, but a philosophical one as well.  He recognizes the need to spread awareness of his lab’s efforts and achievements, as they are highly relevant to researchers in all related disciplines.  His closing thoughts on the future implications of his work are not to be missed.  They will become firmly integrated with your own.
